Marathon Finisher

It was ugly, real ugly, and a bit long.  26.44 miles according to my Garmin.  More details some other time....maybe.... suffice it to say that my knee/IT band injury was NOT healed despite every measure possible taken to do so in the last month, and at mile 2 it made its angry little presence known.  I almost quit at the half (seeing as how in training I was easily keeping the half under 2 hours and today it took 2:12!!!! I knew my finishing time was not going to be the 3:59 I had hoped for, and still think I could do uninjured... but will never find out because I'm NEVER DOING THIS AGAIN!).  Chip time:  4:54:57... Garmin at 26.2:  4:52:44.  I'm glad I can cross it off the bucket list, though, and hope that I didn't do so much damage that after a reasonable amount of recovery and ACTUAL healing time I won't be able to go back to speeding up my shorter distances.  I will say that training for this marathon taught me that I like running 15-18 milers and hope that some day I will be able to do them again, periodically, just for fun.  Ha!  Fun.  I must be mental.

wow!! Congratulations!! I really don't know how you marathoners do it. I hope your IT band recovers nicely and treats you right again soon!

have been meaning to comment forever to say big congratulations on getting through the marathon. the marathon itch is, i believe, something that every distance runner has to scratch at some point but it does come with its major downsides (long training investment, injury potential etc.). glad you got one under your belt but i can see why you would not want to go down that road again! heal well and enjoy getting back to the shorter faster stuff.
